This watercolor was started while still living in Montana.  I had sold my beloved house on the river, and had not yet found my new home on the coast, so I was craving the feeling of roots and feeling settled.  Painting a community of trees felt just right.  The feeling of walking in the woods, when something is just drawing you forward, “towards” something appealed.  Just as walking towards the light in this painting, the move to the coast all came together serendipitously.  I found the perfect lot with an ancient apple orchard that I was able to save, building my house just right amongst the wise old trees on this beautiful island.
